Wesleyan’s scholar-athletes continue to achieve in the classroom and on the field.
Thirteen athletic teams have been honored for academic achievement by their national coaches associations for the 2012-13 year.
Men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey and volleyball all were recognized academically during the fall. Men’s and women’s swimming and diving earned academic distinction for both the fall and spring semesters individually while the wrestling team was a winter achiever. Over the spring, women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s tennis received honors.
Among the 11 teams cited for scholastic accomplishment, the field hockey team tied for second among NCAA Division III teams with its cumulative fall semester GPA of 3.55. The softball team finished third nationally in Division III and fifth among all NCAA teams with its cumulative 3.647 team GPA for the 2012-13 academic year.
The wrestling team ranked sixth nationally among Division III teams with its qualifying GPA of 3.443. Annually, hundreds of Wesleyan student-athletes are honored by regional or national associations for their scholastic achievement.
Notably in 2012-13, the largest pool of Wesleyan student-athletes were named academic all-NESCAC as significant members of their respective teams, having obtained at least sophomore status (or one year in residence as a transfer), and maintaining a minimum 3.35 cumulative GPA. Of the 206, 111 were women and 95 were men.
