All NewsSnapshotsWILD Wes Plants New Terraced Garden at Summerfields Olivia DrakeJune 27, 20143minThe student organization WILD Wes (Working for Intelligent Landscape Design at Wesleyan) has replaced a trampled path near Summerfields with stairs and planted terraces that follow the principles of permaculture. WILD Wes is dedicated to incorporating aspects of sustainable landscaping for the campus. Butterfield’s Green Hall is assisting with the terraced garden and neighboring “hugelkultur,” where wildflowers, vegetables and herbs grow. “Cooky” Avens is an orange perennial that blooms late spring into summer. Sedum. Winterberry Holly, “Winter Red.” The group hopes that its efforts in building permaculture sites will help create productive, unifying spaces in previously overlooked areas of campus. WILD Wes also created the West College Courtyard garden.
