Tom Kannam, vice-president and chief investment officer, was a guest speaker during a Middlesex County Community Foundation meeting in mid November. Kannam shared his expertise about the economy, highlighting the foreclosure crisis and offered his opinion on economic recovery. The meeting was featured in the Middletown Press.

Peter Rutland, the Colin and Nancy Campbell Professor in Global Issues and Democratic Thought, attended a conference on "Globalization and Eurasia" at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India from Nov. 9-12. Rutland gave a paper on "Post-socialist states and the evolution of a new development model." Rutland is on sabbatical this semester.

Tsampikos Kottos, assistant professor of physics, was invited to the 7th Christmas Symposium of Physicists Dec. 11-13. The event will be held at the University of Maribor's Center for Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics in Maribor, Slovenia. Kottos will be one of the main speakers and an honorary distinguished guest. The scientific meeting involves several distinguished guests from abroad, covering all research disciplines in physics.

Berel Lang, visiting professor of philosophy, visiting professor of letters, has given lectures recently at a conference held at Boston University in honor of Elie Wiesel's 80th Birthday; at a conference on "History and Memory of the Holocaust," held in Berlin at the Adenauer Foundation; and at a conference on "Holocaust Denial" in Paris at the Ecole Normale Superieure. Lang's new book, Philosophical Witnessing: The Holocaust as Presence, is scheduled for publication by the University Press of New England in 2009.

Women's Basketball player Ali Fourney '09 was named to the all-tournament team at the 11th Annual Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 23-23. Over the two games, she averaged 17 points and 5.3 rebounds while adding seven assists, three blocks and 11 steals. Kevin Scura '09 was named to the all-tournament team at the Gordon College Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 21-22. He contributed 22 points during the two contests.
