On Oct. 5, hundreds of Wesleyan and local community members celebrated the early fall season at the 16th annual Pumpkin Fest at Long Lane Farm. Participants were treated to farm tours, crafts, a pie-eating contest, free veggie burgers and cider, prizes, and a baked goods sale benefiting New Horizons Domestic Violence Shelter. The campus and local community celebrated the fall season during the College of the Environment's annual Pumpkin Fest on Oct. 13. This month, students tending Wesleyan's Long Lane Farm are harvesting a bounty of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruits, and duck eggs. From 3 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday, members of the Wesleyan and local community can purchase these organic garden goodies at an on-site farmer's market, located at 243 Long Lane. The College of the Environment hosted its 13th Annual Pumpkin Festival Oct. 14 at Wesleyan's Long Lane Farm to celebrate the fall harvest. The Pumpkin Festival provides an opportunity for the Wesleyan and local communities to learn about local organic farming and the politics of food. The event included farm tours, a farmer's market, a bake sale, live music, face and pumpkin painting, free veggie burgers, arts and crafts, bulb planting, and more. The College of the Environment is hosting its annual Pumpkin Festival from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Enjoy free veggie burgers, apple cider, farm tours, live music, vendors, activities and crafts, face painting, tie-dying, letterboxing, paper making, up-cycling t-shirts and more. As soon as the last winter storm smelted away, students involved with Wesleyan's Long Lane Farm were already planting seeds, weeding, tilling fields, staking plots and harvesting winter-hardy herbs, wild garlic and fresh chicken eggs. The student-run organic farm is devoted to allowing students a place to experiment and learn about sustainable agriculture.
