THE CAGE, CAGED: An 8-foot chain link fence surrounds the old Alumni Athletic Building, also known as the 'Cage,' to mark the construction zone for the new Suzanne Lemberg Usdan University Center, which is expected to be completed in August 2007. Parts of the gym are being renovated and incorporated into the new facility. Only construction personnel are allowed into the fenced-off construction zone surrounding the old Alumni Athletic Building and Fayerweather Gymnasium. WHAT WORKS, WHAT DOESN'T: Wesleyan’s Center for Community Partnerships hosted a Conference for Service-Learning titled “What Works and What Doesn’t” May 25-26. Staff members from Amherst, Bowdoin, Byrn Mawr, Connecticut College, Smith, Swarthmore, Trinity, University of Pennsylvania, Williams and Wesleyan convened to assess service-learning’s impact on students, administration and community partners. CLEAR THINKING: Artist and teacher Brett Cook spoke to a group of more than 70 people during his opening reception for "Meditations" in the Zilkha Gallery April 20. Cook's artwork will be on display through May 22. Spectators view Cook's "Documentation of Blackness," on display in the gallery. The artists combines his life experiences, including his biracial upbringings and recent engagement with Buddhism, to comment on his social and cultural realities.     COOKIN' IT UP AFTER WWII: An exhibition titled "Cookbooks and Gender in Postwar America," is on display at Olin Memorial Library through March 31. The exhibit brings together 30 cookbooks and printed ephemera that document cooking and gender in midcentury America, and explores the changing social conditions under which Americans lived and worked after the war.
