ENVS Class Makes Scientific, Artistic Inquiry of Gulf Oil Spill

Last summer, Wesleyan students journeyed to the Louisiana Gulf Coast as part of their College of the Environment class, ENVS 380, a scientific and artistic inquiry into the effects of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  The class was led by Barry Chernoff, the Robert Schumann Professor of Environmental Studies and Chair of the Environmental Studies Program.

Wesleyan Co-Sponsors Inaugural New Years Eve Event in Middletown

The City of Middletown hosted its first Middnight On Main New Year’s Celebration on Dec. 31. The event, which was co-sponsored by Wesleyan, drew more than 10,000 midnight revelers of all ages from the Middletown community and surrounding region. Food, fun, live performance art, and fireworks created bright memories for all. The event also included a jazz piano performance by Wesleyan’s Jazz Ensemble coach Noah Baerman and a performance by SteveSongs’ Steve Roslonek ’93. Middnight on Main is featured in the video below:

Energy Experts Speaks on Gas Price, Nuclear Power Disaster

Journalist Lisa Margonelli, director of the Energy Policy Initiative at the New America Foundation in Washington D.C., spoke on “The Energy Revolution Will not be Tweetable: the Energy Puzzle in More than 140 Characters" during the Where On Earth Are We Going? symposium Nov. 5.Margonelli is the publisher of "The Energy Trap" and blogs frequently at "The Atlantic" web site. Her book "Oil On the Brain: Petroleum’s Long, Strange Trip to Your Tank" follows the oil supply chain from the gas station to oil fields around the world.
