Thirty-two solar panels were installed on the rooftop of a new senior house on Fountain Avenue Oct. 29. The entire house is Enviornmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR certified. This is the first Wesleyan home to have solar panels.

The students are part of the Chemistry Department's Free Radicals group, which participated in the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut’s Eid ul-Fitr Carnival to commemorate the end of Ramadan in October. Eid ul-Fitr is one of two major lunar festivals in the Islamic calendar.

An exhibit titled "The Pearl of the Snowlands: Buddhist Prints from the Derge Parkhang" is on display at the Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Studies Gallery through Dec. 7. Founded in 1729 by Denba Tserenone, the Derge Parkhang is of the foremost cultural, social, religious, and historical institutions in Tibet.

Emily Hoffman '10, of Wesleyan's Jewish Program House Bayit, directs incoming donors to the blood drive. The Bayit house has incorporated the planning of the annual blood drive into their house mission statement. The original planner and Bayit resident Zeeba Khalil '09 has been organizing the event during her time at Wesleyan and the Bayit will continue that work.
Guest panelist Yvonne Haddad, professor Islam history and Christian-Muslim relations at Georgetown University, speaks at the Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program's annual symposium held Oct. 10 at Wesleyan.
The event brought together panelists such as Arzoo Osanloo, professor of anthropology at the University of Washington, who are working on gender issues in Muslim communities, spanning Southeast Asia, North Africa, Britain, the Middle East and North America.
More than 80 senior citizens from the Middlesex Institute for Lifelong Education (MILE) visited campus Oct. 10 for a day-long program about the history of Wesleyan University. The event included lectures, gallery visits, an organ concert and a self-guided campus tour.
Valerie Gillispie, assistant university archivist, speaks to the MILE guests about the architectural history of Wesleyan in the Center for Film Studies. Suzy Taraba, university archivist and head of special collections, spoke about the history of Wesleyan and Middletown. Both talks concluded with a question and answer session.
