KNAC is an organization of eight colleges and universities in the northeast that have banded together to improve astronomy research opportunities for undergraduates. The members are: Colgate, Haverford, Middlebury, Swarthmore, Vassar, Wellesley, Wesleyan and Williams. The group's activities are supported by the National Science Foundation through a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grant to Wesleyan. David Hall, grounds and events manager, received a Cardinal Achievement Award in August. Hall was honored for demonstrating extraordinary initiative or providing outstanding service with regard to specific tasks in his department. This special honor comes with a $150 award and reflects the university’s gratitude for those extra efforts. The award recipients are nominated by department chairs and supervisors. Q: Ed, when did you join the Events and Scheduling office as the facility and event manager for the Memorial Chapel and the '92 Theater? A: I came to Wesleyan in October 2003. Q: As a facility manager, what is your role? A: I make sure that the buildings and equipment are in working order for each event. I manage events within the spaces. Cathy Lechowicz, who served as the director of the Office of Community Services and Volunteerism for the past eight years, has taken on a new role, director of the Center for Community Partnerships (CCP). The Campus Activities Committee hosted "Taste of Middletown" on Oct. 20 as a way to celebrate Wesleyan's faculty and staff. More than a dozen Middletown eateries attended, including Famous Pizza, First & Last, Haveli Indian Restaurant, Sweet Harmony Bakery, Esca and more.
