Mark Slobin, Richard K. Winslow Professor of Music, presented a WESeminar titled “From Glee Club to Gamelan: Music at Wesleyan,” Oct. 22. Wesleyan has always been a campus known for its musical life, being called “The Singing College of New England” in the 1800s. After 1960, the music department gained international renown through its pioneering undergraduate and graduate programs, combining traditional, world, and experimental music. WESeminar attendees were allowed to play the gamelan at the seminar.
