Associate Provost Paula Lawson Dies Sept. 21
Associate Provost Paula Lawson died suddenly Sept. 21.
Lawson graduated from Carleton College with a degree in psychology and held a M. Ed. degree from Harvard University. She served as a coordinator of Academic Student Services in the College of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern University and as a research associate in the Office of Academic Affairs, the Institute for Social Research, and the Center for the Education of Women at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
She came to Wesleyan in 1996 to join the Office of Academic Affairs as assistant provost. She recently completed a demanding program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and received her MBA degree in the spring of this year. Lawson brought an outstanding record of experience to Wesleyan, and matched it with a commitment to service.
Lawson was committed to her faith and was a very active member of her synagogue, Congregation Adath Israel in Middletown, where she served as Secretary of the Congregation.
She is survived by her husband, Rich, and son, Jack.
The funeral will be held at the Congregation Adath Israel synagogue at 1 p.m. on Sept. 24. The synagogue is located on the corner of Church and Broad Streets in Middletown.
