The poster presentation, co-authored with Hilary Barth, assistant professor of psychology, assistant professor of neuroscience and behavior, was titled "Acquiring Knowledge from Others: Preschoolers’ Use of Testimony." Long known for producing writers of great variety and distinction, Wesleyan will open the Shapiro Creative Writing Center in the fall, and with it two programs that further signal the importance the university attaches to writing. Anna Haensch, graduate student, mathematics and computer science, is on the steering committee of Fourth Annual Spuyten Duyvil Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, which is being held at SUNY-New Paltz April 25. She also will be making a presentation titled "The Pell Equation" which will discuss the Pell equation (x2-ny2=1) which was studied by the ancient Greeks and is one of the oldest Diophantine equations, and arguably the most important.

Manju Hingorani, associate professor of molecular biology and biochemistry, is the co-author of "Mechanism of Cadmium-mediated Inhibition of Msh2-Msh6 Function in DNA Mismatch Repair," published in Biochemistry, March 25, 2009. Three undergraduates from three countries worked on the project in the Hingorani Lab at Wesleyan. They include Francis Noah Biro '09; Markus Wieland, an exchange student from University of Konstanz; and Karan Hingorani, Manju Hingorani's nephew from St. Xaviers College in Mumbai who did volunteer work in the lab. Barbara Jones, the Caleb T. Winchester University Librarian, will retire from Wesleyan effective May 31. Jones came to Wesleyan from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. As the Caleb T. Winchester University Librarian, she has worked with students, faculty, Information Technology Services, and others to recreate library spaces and services, including the Olin Information Commons, Jakobson Periodical Reading Room, the Conservation Lab, and the renovated Science Library stacks and study areas. Patricia Tully, who has been the associate university librarian since 2004, will become interim University Librarian on June 1. Tully earned her bachelor of arts in philosophy and graduated magna cum laude from Williams College; she earned her masters degree in library science from the University of Michigan.
