Green Street Hosts Feast, Benefit Auction

The Green Street Arts Center celebrates its fifth-year anniversary with an auction, entertainment and world cuisine.

During Green Street’s “A Feast for the Senses,” participants will enjoy live performances, international foods, scrumptious desserts and a silent auction and raffle on 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 18.  An online auction runs from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15.

“‘A Feast for the Senses’ promises to showcase Green Street’s unique kaleidoscope of offerings with live performances and interactive salsa workshops (bring your dancing shoes), while enjoying a delicious meal,”  says Jessica Carso, GSAC managing director. “Wonderful items and experiences are arriving for our silent auction and raffle every day. We’re sure that everyone is going to find something they just won’t be able to leave without. ”

The auction includes artwork by Keiji Shinohara, tickets to a Jay-Z concert and ENRON, The Musical. Also available is a tour of ESPN Studios or WFSB Studios, a chef in your home or a trip to New York City.

All proceeds will benefit the GSAC’s AfterSchool Arts and Science Program and its Scholarship Fund.

Green Street’s After School Art and Science Program is designed to provide affordable, quality arts education to students in Middletown and the Greater Middletown region. The curriculumn includes courses in sound recording, songwriting, music, videography, art and science, photojournalism, playwriting and performance, choreography, salsa, break dancing, tap dancing and visual arts.

GSAC offers the only multidisciplinary arts programming in a state-of-the arts facility that is low or no-cost to qualifying families and in such close proximity to their homes.

More than half the students enrolled in the program reside in the Middletown’s North End, whose predominant population is black and Latino, with high rates of poverty and youth-at-risk. In 2009, 98 percent of all students received scholarship awards.
