Rutland: G-8 Giving Up on Democracy in old U.S.S.R?

In a recent piece for The Moscow Times, Peter Rutland, Colin and Nancy Campbell Professor in Global Issues and Democratic Thought, professor of Russian and Eastern European Studies, , professor of Government, says that with the G-8 nations pledging $20 billion to Middle Eastern and North African nations in hopes of cultivating democracy in the wake of several public uprisings, the West may be shutting the door on hopes for democracy in former Soviet satellite states of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
