Tölölyan Presents Lectures, Keynotes on Diaspora Studies

Khachig Tölölyan, professor of letters, presented several lectures on Diaspora studies in 2011. They include:

“The Transatlantic Study of Transnational Diasporas,” at Germany’s Münster University, whose new program of diaspora studies was funded for $3.6 million by the Marie Curie Institute, an EU organization. Nov. 28, 2011;

“Varieties of Diaspora: Phenomena, Concepts, Terminology,” at the conference “Perspectives on Global Diasporas,” organized by the Programs in Jewish Studies, Asian Studies, African American Studies and International Affairs, at Northeastern University, Nov. 17, 2011;

“Twenty years of diaspora studies: success through confusion,” at the Conference on Diasporas and Cultures of Migration,” held at the Université de Montpellier-3, France on June 20, 2011;

“Dialogue on Diasporas,” with Professor Robin Cohen at the Conference on Diasporas and Cultures of Migration,” held at the Université de Montpellier-3, France on June 20, 2011;

“Diaspora Studies, Past and Present,” “Transnationalism across the Disciplines,” and “Globalization as Context and Agent,” at the Center for the Book [Grki Kendron] in Yerevan, Armenia on Oct. 23-25, 2011.

Tölölyan also served as a commentator on 12 papers at a by-invitation only conference at the Radcliffe Institute’s Workshop on “Diasporas, Generations, Memory,” on Nov. 19, 2011, and as a discussant at “The Achievements and Futures of Armenian Studies,” a three-day conference at the University of Michigan Oct. 14-16, 2011.

He also delivered two keynote addresses: “Diaspora Studies: Past, Present, and Promise,” at the Inaugural lecture for the new Oxford Diasporas Programme on June 2, 2011 and “Diaspora Studies Now: Theoretical Frames and Empirical Directions,” for the Conference on Arab Diasporas, Johann Guttenberg University in Mainz, Germany on May 19, 2011.
