On June 3, the Office of Human Resources coordinated an Ice Cream Social for faculty and staff. The event took place at Usdan University Center's Huss Courtyard. Employees won raffle prizes and participated in volleyball games, water balloon toss and bean bag toss. Mario Torres, a material handler from Physical Plant, deejayed the event while the Center for the Arts provided musical entertainment with steel pan drums. Qualifying members of the Class of 2015 were inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society, the oldest national scholastic honor society, in a ceremony May 23 at Memorial Chapel. The event was held in conjunction with Reunion & Commencement Weekend.

Students enrolled in the Introduction to Environmental Studies course presented their artist's books, children's stories, documentaries and story maps during the class's annual Project Showcase on May 14 in Exley Science Center. The class is taught by Kim Diver, visiting assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences. On May 12, the Office of Human Resources and the Wesleyan University Wellness Program hosted a luncheon and awards ceremony for winners of the Cardinal Fit Challenge. The challenge took place Feb. 2 through May 1. The goal of the Wesleyan University Wellness Program is to establish a work environment that encourages faculty, staff and their families to take responsibility for their physical and mental well-being through health awareness and healthy lifestyles. This program supports a comprehensive approach to decreasing the incidence, duration and severity of preventable illnesses and disease by promoting educational opportunities, wellness activities and self-improvement. On May 1, the Neuroscience and Behavior Program held its second annual undergraduate research symposium. Arranged in the format of a professional scientific conference, seniors in the program presented their research done in faculty labs, while students and faculty in attendance enjoyed dinner at Daniel Family Commons. Five seniors spoke and seven other students presented posters on topics ranging from sonification of measures of electrical activity in the brain to the study of characteristics of neuronal membranes. On May 8, members of the Wesleyan community gathered in the CFA Courtyard for an invigorating performance filled with the rhythms of West Africa. Performing were choreographer Iddi Saaka, artist in residence in the dance department, and master drummer Abraham Adzenyah, adjunct professor of music, together with their students in three levels of West African dance courses, plus guest artists. After almost five decades at Wesleyan, Adzenyah will retire in May 2016. To honor his cultural contributions and to recognize his rich professorial and performing legacy, alumni, students, colleagues, and friends are hoping to “drum up” enough support to raise $300,000 for an…
