Naomi Kamins, assistant director for student services with Graduate Liberal Studies Program, is retiring on July 29. Over the past 24 years, Naomi has worked in many areas of the program, and most recently has worked very closely with Graduate Liberal Studies students, ensuring that they progress through the program as smoothly as possible. Q: Sheryl, you're currently the director of Continuing Studies and Graduate Liberal Studies. Your office also oversees the Wesleyan Summer Session. What is your role with the program, and how are you able to wear three hats!? A: The programs we run all have a lot of logistical processes in common, so many of our roles are similar for Summer Session and the other programs. Sheryl Culotta has been appointed director of Continuing Studies and Graduate Liberal Studies. She has served as interim director of the GLSP since April 2009, and in that time has demonstrated outstanding skill in managing the GLSP as well as taking administrative and logistical leadership of the coming Summer Session. Geoff Hammerson hopes that the students who take his Graduate Liberal Studies Program week-long immersion course Life Among Snow and Ice this March get "an appreciation for the diverse and abundant life of parts of Earth that relatively few people experience" and learn how life copes with challenging conditions. Hammerson has been teaching GLSP classes since 1985. His classes on the environment and nature are usually widely popular. In fact, as this article comes out the March 2009 course is fully enrolled.
