Andrew Seibert ’86 Promoted to President of SmartMoney
Andrew Seibert has been named president of SmartMoney, a joint venture between Hearst Corporation and Dow Jones & Co. Seibert will continue in his current position as vice president and publisher of SmartMoney’s Customs Solutions, the venture’s successful custom publishing arm. In his expanded role, Seibert will be responsible for the circulation, advertising and marketing operations of SmartMoney magazine as well as for SmartMoney.com.
Before joining SmartMoney, Seibert was general manager of Money magazine’s Education Services. He has also served as vice president of marketing at a division of GE Capital, and as a marketer at American Express Travel Related Services.

Herb Kelleher ’53 Named to Federal Reserve Board of Governors
Herb Kelleher, co-founder of Southwest Airlines, has been appointed by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to serve as deputy chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

Kelleher brings to the board years of experience in developing a major low-fare airline and extensive executive experience from his 20 years as president and CEO of Southwest. Kelleher also served 30 years as executive chairman, retiring in 2008. He is now executive chairman emeritus of Southwest.

Scott Gottlieb ’94 Named to CombiMatrx Board
The biotechnology company CombiMatrix Corp. has appointed former US Food and Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, to the company’s board of directors. Dr. Gottlieb served as FDA Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Scientific Affairs between 2005 and 2007, and before that he was a senior adviser for Medical Technology to the FDA Commissioner. He also served as the FDA’s Director of Medical Policy Development.

Dr. Gottlieb is currently a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He also practices medicine as an attending physician at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut.

Caroline Little ’81 Named Guardian North America CEO
Guardian News & Media (GNM) has appointed as chief executive for North America former WashingtonPost.Newsweek Interactive publisher and CEO Caroline Little. She joined GNM’s board in July as a special adviser on US expansion.

Little also sits on the boards of the American Press Institute, Grinnell College, the Posse foundation and the Knight Foundation. Joining the Washington Post in 1997, she led the websites of the DC paper, Newsweek, Slate and TheRoot.

Dave Thomas ’77 Promoted at Nielsen
David Thomas has recently been promoted twice at Nielsen Media Research, first to president, Media Client Services North America, then most recently, to president, Global Media Client Services overseeing all Nielsen’s television audience measurement business worldwide. Nielsen measures television audiences in 30 countries in addition to the United States.
