About 40 students attended the event. They were encouraged to speak about the latest chapter of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Yudhiakto Pramudya, a graduate student in physics, says it is difficult and complicated to offer an opinion on the war because he is Muslim. In his home country of Indonesia, he says, the majority of Muslims agree that the best way to act is to help the victim. Ben Sachs-Hamilton '09 says, as a Jew, his complicated connection to the state of Israel was even more strained by what he saw as the "deeply misguided policies pursued by the Israeli government in the recent violence in Gaza." Taiki Sawabe '12, pictured in the background, listens to Sachs-Hamilton speak. At left, Jenny Lo '10 talks about how her semester studying abroad altered her view on the Gaza war, while Melina Aguilar '10 looks on. Marwa Aly, University Muslim Chaplain, shares a story during the talk on Gaza. The event was sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and Interfaith Justice League.
