More than 75 undergraduate students made presentations at the Wesleyan Summer Research Poster Session, held Aug. 1 in Exley Science Center’s lobby.
Students majoring in biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, psychology, physics, earth and environmental sciences, chemistry, economics, sociology and government spent at least 10 weeks this summer working on research projects.
Several students are McNair Fellows, Hughes Fellows or Quantitative Analysis Center Fellows.

Jillian Roberts ’15 presented her research on the “Influence of Minimal Group Membership on Children’s Ideas of Equality.” Her advisors were Jessica Taggart, Psychology Department research associate and lab coordinator, and Hilary Barth, associate professor of psychology.Charlie Chung ’14 presented his research on “What matters in Environmental Politics? How the strategies of different sectors affect the outcome of environments.” His advisor is Mary Alice Haddad, associate professor of government, environmental studies, and East Asian studies.Peter Martin ’14 spoke to Professor Joop Varekamp about his research on “Modeling and Experimental Analysis of Martian Brines.” His advisor is Martha Gilmore, chair of earth and environmental sciences.Melanie Schaffler ’15 presented her research on the “Effect of Parasitism on Nutrient Selection in Grammia incorrupta Caterpillars.” Her advisor is Michael Singer, associate professor of biology, associate professor of environmental studies.Rami Elsabeh ’15 presented his research on the “Relationship Between Zebra Finch Song Stereotypy, Singing Rate, and Neuronal Morphology in Two Song System Regions.” His advisor is John Kirn, professor of biology.Jason Gross ’14 presented his research on “Behavior of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet During the Pliocene (2.6-5.3mya).” His advisor is Suzanne O’Connell, professor of earth and environmental sciences.Christopher Roth ’15 presented his research on “Calculating Differential Collision Cross Sections for Li2-Ne Collisions.”Hanbin Wang Jr. ’15 presented his research on “Construction of Mismatched Circular DNA Substrate for Biochemical Assays.” His advisors were Anushi Sharma, Ph.D. student in the Hingorani Lab, and Manju Hingorani, professor of molecular biology and biochemistry.John Pacheco ’15 (pictured) and Andrew Ribner ’14 presented their research on “Navigation in Children: The Effects of Symmetry and Asymmetry on Spatial Reorientation.” Their advisor is Anna Shusterman, assistant professor of psychology.Elaine Tsui ’15 presented her research on “Anodic Oxidation of 1,1-Diphenylacetone in Various Alcohols.” Her advisor is Albert Fry, the E.B.
