More than 400 Wesleyan students, staff and friends participated in Relay for Life April 8 on Andrus Field. The event gives communities a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Lit bags lined the Huss Courtyard during the relay. Each bag bears the name of a person touched by cancer. All Relay for Life participants gathered at dark for the Luminaria Ceremony. The event included walking a lap in silence to remember loved ones lost to the disease.Wesleyan's 45 teams helped raised more than $46,500 for the American Cancer Society. Team Beta Theta Pi raised $5,200 for the cause. The WesLife team raised $725. Students sold cupcakes and other treats during the relay. Student bands and a DJ provided musical entertainment throughout the evening. The relay concluded at 11 p.m. The top fund-raising team was Cancertainly Sucks! With $8,870. The top individual fund-raiser was Hannah Vogel ‘13 with $4,760.
