Some students selected a book they had read and redesigned the cover, back cover, spine and flaps. Book redesign. Other students developed a system of icons organizing an aspect of their life, an interest, or any other chosen set of information. Students developed an application or imagined use for their icons. The class, ARTS 433, covered the basic principles of graphic design, including composition and form making. Students were challenged to develop the ability to communicate using text and image. Building on a series of exercises that introduces several graphic design fundamentals (such as scale, weight, direction and hierarchy), they were asked to solve simple and complex design problems and work fluidly in multiple formats.
