The Administrators and Faculty of Color Alliance (AFCA) hosted a lunch for seniors of color May 19 at Daniel Family Commons. Students received stoles, which they may wear during the Commencement ceremony May 25. AFCA members Joanne Rafferty, associate director of Usdan University Center, and Antonio Farias, vice president for equity and inclusion, spoke to students during the luncheon. Wesleyan students presented “Texts.com Presents Shrak the Musical: the Musical” May 3 in WestCo Cafe. Nick Petrillo '14, Sky McGilligan '14, Keegan Dufty '14 and Liza Pine '14 wrote, directed and acted in the musical. Charlie Kaplan '14 directed the music and co-directed the show. The Campus Activities Committee sponsored the 3rd Annual Taste of Middletown, an event offering samples from 15 local restaurants and hotels including Typhoon Asian Cuisine, Sweet Harmony Bakery, Lyman Orchards and more. The event took place on April 30 in Beckham Hall and included a raffle prizes. More than 225 Wesleyan faculty and staff attended. Employees were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to Amazing Grace, a food pantry located in Middletown. Wesleyan’s Cognitive Development Labs hosted Family Math Night at Edna Stevens Elementary School in Cromwell, Conn. on April 9. The event was full of games and activities for preschool children to play and get them excited about math while showing families activities that they can do at home to prepare their children for kindergarten. Assistant Professor of Psychology Anna Shusterman’s students designed the math games as part of a research methods class. (more…)
