The Astronomy Department's Van Vleck Observatory is getting a makeover this month. All three domes are being painted by contractor Superior Finishes.

Work on the largest dome began June 22. It tested negative for lead, and was stripped to the tin surface.
The Van Vleck Observatory has three onsite telescopes housed in the domes. These include a 24-inch research telescope, a 20-inch great refractor and a 16-inch telescope housed in the rooftop dome of the observatory. (Photos by Lauren Valentino '10)
