Matthews was learning about ITS's New Media Lab from Melissa Datre, director of the New Media Lab, pictured at right. Scott Vanek, academic computing manager, teaches Valerie Marinelli, administrative assistant for the Environmental Studies Certificate Program and McNair Program, how to use a sympodium pen display during the open house. Open house visitors had the opportunity to learn about academic computing, administrative computing, user and technical services, art technologies, the Quantitative Analysis Center, Wesleyan Station, new media and web, instructional media services, scientific computing and informatics, among several other ITS departments. At left, Luis Rodriguez Vodak, assistant store manager in ITS; Phil Dean, desktop support specialist and art workshops technology administrator, and at far right, Chris Caesar, instructional media technology specialist, lead a tour of the Arts Workshops room 112 and Center for the Arts lab. Several digital media, photography and film editing classes are taught in the classrooms. The lab includes 12 computers, a projector, a large format scanner, a slide scanner, a color and black and white laser printer and various audio and video editing equipment. Phil Dean, desktop support specialist and art workshops technology administrator, discusses large format printers with Scott Plous, professor of psychology. Dean manages two Epson printers in the Art Workshops Large Format Printing Office that can produce archival-quality images up to 44 inches wide by 100 feet long.
