Student Academic Resources Trains 2010-11 Peer Advisors

Ten Wesleyan students participated in the Student Academic Resources Network (SARN) Peer Advising Program training Aug. 25-Sept. 4. Peer Advisors help their fellow students prepare for their initial meetings with faculty advisors. Sarah Lazare, pictured at right, teaches the peer advisors how to give individualized peer advice and facilitate workshops for groups of students regarding time management, public speaking, study and exam preparation strategies.
In addition to helping out at New Student Orientation, SARN peer advisors maintain a regular presence in the residence halls and on-line throughout the academic year. Pictured, from left, are Shirin Sulaiman '11, Greg Wong '11, Lena Dang '11 and Ali Chaudhry '12.
Ellen Bartolini '11 and Alyssa Bogdanow '11 take notes at the SARN Peer Advisor training. Peer advisors are compensated during the academic year, plus stipend, room and board for all training sessions held during and prior to orientation week.
