Olivia DrakeScott Holmes, associate professor of molecular biology and biochemistry, received a $5,125 National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates supplement to enhance his current grant, which supports research titled, “Epigenetic Silencing of Gene Expression in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae.”
Janice Naegele, professor of biology, professor of neuroscience and behavior, received a $484,788 National Institutes of Health Academic Research Enhancement Award for her work on “Stem Cell Transplation for Epilepsy" in 2013.

Choreographer Iddi Saaka and Master Drummer Abraham Adzenyah will perform with their students in a West African Drumming and Dance performance at 3 p.m. May 10 in the Center for the Arts courtyard. Geoffrey Stone, the Edward H. Levi Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, delivered the 22nd annual Hugo L. Black Lecture on Freedom of Expression on April 18. The topic of this year's event was "Justice Alito’s First Amendment.” Stone explored the current state of constitutional jurisprudence, with a particular eye on the approach of the most "conservative" of the current justices. How they undertake the challenge of interpreting the often vague and open-ended guarantees of the Constitution? What explains their decisions in the most controversial cases, involving such issues as the constitutionality of campaign finance regulation, affirmative action, and gun control?…

Joe Hopkins, Ed Manter and Mike Berzenski from Physical Plant and Dan LaBonte from Residential Life were all recently presented with awards for their outstanding efforts during a February snow storm. Ensuring the safe operation of the Central Power Plant during a storm is critical to providing campus buildings with the necessary heat during freezing temperatures. Hopkins, Manter and Berzenski made their way to work either by driving in treacherous driving conditions at the height of the storm or by walking to work the next day along roads impassable to cars. They all worked beyond their scheduled shifts in order…
