All NewsSnapshotsHumanities Hosts Conference on War Culture Olivia DrakeOctober 13, 20102minThe Center for Humanities hosted a day-long conference Oct. 8 in Russell House titled “Collateral Damage: Civilians and Civil Culture in War.” Pictured is guest lecturer Janet Halley, the Royal Professor of Law from Harvard University. Jill Morawski, professor of psychology, professor of science in society, professor of feminist, gender and sexuality studies, organized the conference. Halley spoke on “Feminist Constructions of Wartime Rape as a War upon Women: Cautionary Notes on the Rome Statute.” Discussants included Margot Weiss, assistant professor of American studies and anthropology and Sonali Chakravarti, assistant professor of government. The conference was attended by Wesleyan students, fellows and faculty. Other guest speakers included Christine Bacareza Balance, assistant professor of Asian American studies at the University of California-Irvine, and Adi Ophir, associate professor at the Cohn Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Ideas at Tel Aviv University.
