Sheryl Culotta, director of continuing studies and Graduate Liberal Studies, will serve as Wesleyan's associate provost beginning Nov. 18. Culotta started working at Wesleyan in 2005. She earned a JD at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and a BA from Colgate University. Antonio Farias, currently Chief Diversity Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, will become Wesleyan’s Chief Diversity Officer on Nov. 4. At the Coast Guard Academy since 2005, he chaired the Inclusive Excellence Council and worked with the highest level of leadership in the Coast Guard, developing a metrics-driven inclusion and diversity strategy for the Academy that eventually shaped strategy for the larger 47,000-member organization. Scott Backer, Jonathan Connary, Rick Culliton, Maureen Isleib, Tanya Purdy, Joyce Walter and Michael Whitcomb were presented recently with Cardinal Achievement Awards for their efforts on the National College Health Improvement Project (NCHIP) Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking. Over the past two years, they led Wesleyan’s participation in this project, which required a significant ongoing commitment above and beyond their usual duties. Sharon Belden Castonguay will become director of the Wesleyan Career Center in late May. An expert in career development and strategic planning, Castonguay comes to Wesleyan from Baruch College where she was director of the Graduate Career Management Center for the Zicklin School of Business. Previously, she was an independent career consultant and worked at Harvard University’s Office of Career Services. Makaela Kingsley will become director of the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Makaela (Steinberg) Kingsley graduated from Wesleyan in 1998 with a degree in neuroscience and behavior. After a brief stint doing public relations for the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, she returned to Wesleyan in 2000 to join the alumni and parent relations team in University Relations. Thirteen local eateries and businesses participated in Wesleyan’s second annual Taste of Middletown, March 5 in Beckham Hall. The event was sponsored by Wesleyan’s Campus Activities Committee and the Office of Human Resources. Businesses included the Sweet Harmony Cafe and Bakery, Mondo, Luce Restaurant, Esca, Haveli India, Tibetan Kitchen, Tuscany Grill, W.B. Mason, Wesleyan's Bon Appetit, the Inn at Middletown and Tavern at the Armory; Courtyard by Marriott - Cromwell and Sheraton Hartford South Hotel. More than 200 Wesleyan employees attended the event.
