For their efforts enhancing undergraduate science education and supporting teaching innovations, two Wesleyan faculty members were named National Academies Education Fellows in the Sciences for 2015-2016. Francis Starr, professor of physics and director of the College of Integrative Sciences, and Ishita Mukerji, the Fisk Professor of Natural Science, professor of molecular biology and biochemistry, received the fellowships while participating in the 2015 National Academies Summer Institute on Undergraduate Education, held June 14-19 at Princeton University. The Summer Institute, a five-day program of discussions, demonstrations and workshops, brought college and university faculty together to develop teaching skills. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division is sponsoring its annual Celebration of Science Theses from 12:30 to 2 p.m. April 17 in Exley Science Center. Poster presentations will be made by NSM honors and MA students. Refreshments will be provided. The entire Wesleyan community is invited. "Come join us in appreciation of our students’ achievements," said Manju Hingorani, professor of molecular biology and biochemistry. The event is co-organized by Hingorani; Barbara Juhasz, associate professor of psychology, associate professor of neuroscience and behavior, director of the Service Learning Center; and Seth Redfield, assistant professor of astronomy.
Honors and MA students in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division presented their research at the Celebration of Science Theses, April 18 in Exley Science Center. Xi Liu '14 presented her study on "Consequences of Priming Status Legitimizing Beliefs in Whites: An Investigation of Perceived Anti-White Bias, Zero-Sum Beliefs and Support for Affirmative Action."

Join Wesleyan students and faculty members at the "Celebration of Science Theses" April 19. The seventh annual event will feature 15 seniors and BA/MA students from the Natural Science and Mathematics departments presenting posters on their research to the Wesleyan community. Among them will be computer science major Micah Wylde '12 presenting "Safe Motion Planning for Autonomous Driving" and molecular biology and biochemistry major Sophia Levan '12 presenting "The Carbohydrate-Binding Activity of Vibrio Cholerae Cytolysin."
