Dan Lachman '09 was featured in an a Oct. 12 Washington Post article titled Making it: A college student takes aim at his future by starting a profitable clothing business". Lachman, 21, started his company, Sharp Shirter, in 2005. He creates clothing designs and laptop skins. Matt Lesser ’10, who is on a leave of absence from Wesleyan this semester, was elected as a state representative for Connecticut's 100th District during the 2008 election. He pulled off the victory against Republican Ray Kalinowski, a third-term incumbent for the 100th House District, which covers part of Middletown. Lesser, 25, was previously elected to Middletown's Planning and Zoning Commission. Lesser, a democrat, was featured on the Hartford, Conn.-based Eyewitness News Channel 3 Nov. 5 in a story titled "25-Year-Old Snatches State Seat From Rep." The story and video are online here.

It's a dog-gone good month for Laurenellen McCann ’09. After spending her entire summer working for an independent television production company, the government major's work was finally broadcast Oct. 11 on the network, Animal Planet. As one of three associate producers for the new series Dogs 101, McCann was at the front line of creative thought for each episode. She was responsible for researching the information to be disseminated in every episode, including details about the dog breeds featured and the best stories to make them stand out. (more…)

Matt Connolly '09 is the author of several film reviews , published in Reverse Shot, a quarterly, independently published film journal. Last winter, Connolly sent writing samples to the Reverse Shot editors and he was offered a contributing writer position. Since, he has written reviews on the films Boy A, The Chronicles of Narnia: Price Caspian, Felon, The Incredible Hulk, Frozen River, and others online here. A service project undertaken by Wesleyan students for the Helen Carlson Wildlife Sanctuary in Portland, Conn. has drawn the attention of journalists. A piece title "Bird-Watching Deck Built with Respect for Environment appeard in the Oct. 19 Sunday Hartford Courant: http://www.courant.com/features/hc-fancybirders.art0oct18,0,3286282.story . Another piece titled "Eye Candy: Bird-Watching in High Design" ran in the Oct Chronicle of Higher Education: Chronicle of Higher Education blog . Two articles written by Jonna Humphries '10 appeared in New York Magazine recently. Humpries worked as an intern for the magazine as a member of their public relations department during the summer. She wrote a story about  Christian Siriano, a fashion designer and Project Runway winner; and another featuring Nigel Barker, a fashion photographer and judge from America's Next Top Model who hosted a photography exhibition on Canadian seal hunting. During a restless winter day in northeast Vermont, Katherine Bascom ‘10 had an indoor wrestling match with her overly energetic dog, Ori. Midway through the contest, Bascom grabbed a camera off her nightstand and began snapping some shots. One of these photographs, a close-up action-shot of Ori, is the page 36 feature photo of Wesleyan’s new, student-run magazine called Exposure. (more…)
